Contemporary Picture Framing

There is a trend towards contemporary style framing which is especially suited to modern art as well as historical and vintage pieces. Below are some of the designs we've come up over the years to showcase just some of the vast styles of framing possible to compliment your art or space. We have a wide range of mouldings such as in-house stained finishes, hand finished mouldings from Italy, Scandinavian mid-century style veneers, Australian pre stained timbers, basic frame profiles as well as a wide range of pre finished mouldings from industry suppliers.

Heritage Picture Framing

A more decorative style of picture framing, it lends itself to not only complimenting an art piece but to also replicating the look of a past era. This has been especially important with the combination of printing, photo restoration, document restoration and classic mount board styles to duplicate a pre-existing piece or create a new one faithful to that era.

Conservation Framing

For items and artworks with monetary, historic or personal value, Conservation framing ( also referred to as Archival or Preservation Framing )is a process by which the highest quality materials are used along with best practice framing standards to ensure maximum longevity. Conservation framing strives to ensure all aspects of the picture frame package are archival and any attachments to the art are completely reversible without harm.
Mi-Art is active in the care, preservation and presentation of artworks and historical items and our materials and workmanship are in line with standards set by the numerous local and international organisations including The Picture Framers Guild of Australia, The Professional Picture Framers Association and The Fine Art Trade Guild ( UK ). We are committed to continually investigating and implementing new materials and processes where available.

Military WAR Medal Framing

One of our most popular services is the framing and presentation of photographs, military service and war medals and mementos of those who served in the military. Our designs range from framed photographs with medals and titles to complex military service displays incorporating items such as insignia, badges, pay books, enlistment documents other related material. Our computerised mat cutting services enable us to tastefully display even the most complicated of collections. Each design is unique and we offer a computerised design and visualisation service to ensure the best possible presentation.

Framing Glass

Glass is always an important consideration when designing a custom frame. We offer an extensive range of picture framing glass ensuring that we can provide a solution suitable for the preservation or aesthetic considerations relevant to each framing project. Our showroom has extensive samples and display pieces to aid you in choosing the most appropriate glazing for your frame.

Regular Clear Glass

A general picture framing grade glass, clear and free from defects. It only blocks around 50-60% of UV light making it unsuitable for use when the framed artwork is of importance or preservation is required.

Non Reflective Glass

This glass is etched on one side to diffuse reflections. It has a tendency to soften the image clarity, especially when the glazing is spaced from the art and is therefore not recommended for artworks and photographs with fine detail, triple layer matting or any dimensional framing such as object and shadow box frames.

UV Glass - Conservation Clear

An extremely popular and economical glass used for protecting art and objects from fading. It is an ultra-clear glazing which provides 99% protection against UV light. UV light is present in sunlight entering from windows as well as fluorescent and halogen lights commonly found inside. This is the minimum level of protection used for conservation grade framing. We always suggest using this glass as a minimum when the item framed is of importance to the customer. Suitable for more than just conservation grade framing, UV glazing also protects your investment in any custom framing project ensuring all elements within the frame including mount boards and other materials remain in good condition for as long as possible.

UV Glass - Non Reflective

Similar to Conservation Clear UV Glass with an etched side. Shares the same visual distractions as regular non-reflective glass. Suitable for Conservation Grade Framing.

Low Reflection Museum Glass

A superior picture framing glass, with the dual benefits of 99% UV absorption and an optical coating rendering the glass near invisible, offering an enhanced viewing of the art. Perfect for artworks with fine details or rich blacks where glass reflection would interfere with the viewing experience. Unlike non-reflective glass, Museum glass is perfectly suited to dimensional framing, including triple matting, object and spaced frame designs. In recent years this glass has become more widely available to the Australian market, making it a more attractive option for general use.
Suitable for Conservation Grade Framing.

Acrylic Glazing

Acrylic is a suitable alternative to glass with similar clarity offering benefits of being both lightweight and shatterproof. Acrylic therefore provides a safe option for oversized frames and frames that will be hung areas with safety concerns such as public areas, children's rooms etc. Frames that need be frequently relocated or shifted can benefit from the safety of acrylic glazing. The Shatter resistant properties of acrylic offer extra protection for framed items, reducing the likelihood of damage when glazing breakage occurs.
Disadvantages of Acrylic include it's vulnerability to scratching, a static charge rendering it unsuitable for framing of charcoal. pastels and other friable and brittle items. Acrylic is also generally more expensive that regular glass.

UV Low Reflective Acrylic Glazing

A truly premium picture framing glazing, used in museums and art galleries around the world. This product has all the advantages of both museum glass and regular acrylic glazing. Optically coated for near invisibility and 99% UV protection it has none of the disadvantages commonly experienced with acrylic. Its antistatic properties make it ideally suited to framing of charcoal and pastel artworks, brittle documents and works on delicate papers. It is also extremely durable and scratch resistant when compared to other acrylic glazing. Cost of course is the only disadvantage with this glazing. Suitable for Conservation Grade Framing.
